48 Hour Film Project
for the Portland 48 Hour Film project this year. I worked with Opera Theatre Oregon and a team called “Opera Cinema Strike Force”. They commissioned an original opera for their film. The catch, the film has to be finished in 48 hours and given that the actors work with the score on the set, the soundtrack has to be finished in about 12 hours. That gave me about 6 hours (between midnight and 6AM) to write the orchestral score before the musicians show up to record it in the morning.
We had a fantastic orchestra this year led by conductor Erica Melton and concertmaster Lucia Conrad. With over 35 players and singers, we put together a great soundtrack and had a CD in hand for the score 12 hours after the first note hit the paper at midnight.
The film with my score premieres at the Hollywood Theatre on Wednesday the 11th at 7 pm. I’ll post it here eventually as well. It was a fun project and the largest ensemble I’ve even written for. Thanks to everyone involved!!
